Major Cause of Death
Cardiovascular diseases was a major cause of death in Tonga with 186 registered deaths (in year 2016) i.e. 24% of total deaths. Overall Cardiovascular diseases, Diabetes, blood and endocrine disease and Cancers were the highest types of death causes in Tonga.
- We see the maximum number of deaths is seen in age group 70+ with 390 deaths (year 2016).
- 45.83% kids below age 5 years die because of Neonatal disorders.
- Road accidents, Cancers and Drowning are the major cause of death in kids aged 5 - 14 years.
- Cancers, Cardiovascular disease and Diabetes, blood, and endocrine diseases are the major cause of death in people aged 14 - 49 years.
- Diabetes, blood, and endocrine diseases, Cardiovascular diseases and Cancers are the major cause of death in people aged over 50 years.
- Overall, it's observed that 25% of people aging over 50 years die because of Diabetes, blood, and endocrine diseases.


Major Risk Factors of Death
- Three Major factors of death in Tonga are High blood sugar, High body-mass index (obesity) and High blood pressure. Every year around 2 people die due to High blood sugar.
- Low birth weight and Child wasting are the major risk factor of kids death aging under 5 years.
- Iron deficiency and Household air pollution are the major risk factors of death of people aging between 5 to 14 years.
- High body-mass index (obesity), High blood sugar and Smoking are the death risk factors of people aging between 15 to 49 years.
- High body-mass index (obesity), High blood sugar and High blood pressure are the major death risk factors of people aging between 50 to 69 years.
- High blood sugar is the major death risk factors for people aging more than 70 years.

Cancer Analysis
0.46% of Tonga population was suffering from cancer i.e. 316 people (average of years 2011-2016). Highest number of cancer patients deaths were recorded due to Breast cancer (Count : 18) and Liver cancer was also concerning with 12 deaths in a year.
