Cardiovascular diseases was a major cause of death in Kiribati with 289 registered deaths (in year 2016) i.e. 28% of total deaths. Overall Cardiovascular diseases, Diabetes, blood and endocrine disease and Cancers were the highest types of death causes in Kiribati.

  • Three Major factors of death in Kiribati are High blood sugar, High body-mass index (obesity) and Smoking. Every year around 22 people die due to High blood sugar.

  • Household air pollution and Unsafe water source are the major risk factors of death of people aging between 5 to 14 years.

0.21% of Kiribati population was suffering from cancer i.e. 142 people (average of years 2011-2016). Highest number of cancer patients deaths were recorded due to Breast cancer (Count : 9) and Lip & oral cancer was also concerning with 9 deaths in a year. In last few years it has been observed that, people suffering from Stomach cancer have 13% of survival chance.Kiribati was really successful in diagnosing Thyroid cancerGallbladder & biliary tract cancer where 100% of people were cured.Highest number of cancer patients i.e. 59 people were of age group 50-69 year olds.In 2016, 37 were suffering from Breast cancer out of which 9 people were dead.
