Major Cause of Death
Cardiovascular diseases was a major cause of death in Kiribati with 289 registered deaths (in year 2016) i.e. 28% of total deaths. Overall Cardiovascular diseases, Diabetes, blood and endocrine disease and Cancers were the highest types of death causes in Kiribati.
- We see the maximum number of deaths is seen in age group 50-69 with 357 deaths (year 2016).
- 41.86% kids below age 5 years die because of Neonatal disorders.
- Cardiovascular disease, Lower respiratory infections and Cancers are the major cause of death in kids aged 5 - 14 years.

Major Risk Factors of Death
- Three Major factors of death in Kiribati are High blood sugar, High body-mass index (obesity) and Smoking. Every year around 22 people die due to High blood sugar.
- Child wasting and Low birth weight are the major risk factor of kids death aging under 5 years.
- Household air pollution and Unsafe water source are the major risk factors of death of people aging between 5 to 14 years.
- High body-mass index (obesity), High blood sugar and Smoking are the death risk factors of people aging between 15 to 49 years.

0.21% of Kiribati population was suffering from cancer i.e. 142 people (average of years 2011-2016).
