Cardiovascular diseases was major cause of death in
Cyprus with 2607 registered deaths (in year 2016) i.e. 36% of total deaths. Overall Cardiovascular diseases, Cancers and Diabetes, blood and endocrine disease were highest types of death causes in
Cyprus.
Major Cause of Death in Cyprus
- Maximum number of deaths is seen in age group 70+ with 5524 deaths (year 2016).
- 48.39% kids below age 5 years die due to Neonatal disorders.
- Cancers, Road accidents and Diabetes, blood, and endocrine diseases are the major cause of death in kids aging 5 - 14 years.
- Cancers, Road accidents and Cardiovascular disease are the major cause of death in people aging 14 - 49 years.
- Cancers, Cardiovascular diseases and Diabetes, blood, and endocrine diseases are the major cause of death in people aging more than 50 years.
- Overall its observed that 41% of people aging more than 50 years die due to Cancers.

- Three Major factors of death in Cyprus are High blood pressure, High blood sugar and High body-mass index (obesity). Every year around 2 people die due to High blood pressure.
- Low birth weight and Child wasting are the major risk factor of kids death aging under 5 years.
- Alcohol use and High blood sugar are the major risk factors of death of people aging between 5 to 14 years.
- Alcohol use, Smoking and High body-mass index (obesity) are the death risk factors of people aging between 15 to 49 years.
- Smoking, High blood pressure and High body-mass index (obesity) are the major death risk factors of people aging between 50 to 69 years.
- High blood pressure is the major death risk factors for people aging more than 70 years.
1.15% of
Cyprus population was suffering from cancer i.e. 12640 people (average of years 2011-2016). Highest number of cancer patients deaths were recorded due to Colon & rectum cancer (Count : 160) and Breast cancer was also concerning with 147 deaths in a year. In last few years it has been observed that, people suffering from Esophageal cancer have 18% of survival chance.
Cyprus was really successful in diagnosing Testicular cancer where 99% of people were cured.Highest number of cancer patients i.e. 5721 people were of age group 70+ year olds.In 2016, 1838 were suffering from Colon & rectum cancer out of which 160 people were dead. This means 8.71% death rate of people suffering from Colon & rectum cancer. This below data represents major cancer types in
