Major Cause of Death
HIV/AIDS was a major cause of death in South Africa with 164288 registered deaths (in year 2016) i.e. 31% of total deaths. Overall HIV/AIDS, Cardiovascular diseases and Cancers were the highest types of death causes in South Africa.
- We see the maximum number of deaths is seen in age group 15-49 with 209672 deaths (year 2016).
- 38.31% kids below age 5 years die because of HIV/AIDS.
- Road accidents, HIV/AIDS and Lower respiratory infections are the major cause of death in kids aged 5 - 14 years.

Major Risk Factors of Death
- Three Major factors of death in South Africa are Unsafe sex, High blood sugar and High blood pressure. Every year around 7671 people die due to Unsafe sex.
- Low birth weight and Child wasting are the major risk factor of kids death aging under 5 years.
- Unsafe sex and Unsafe water source are the major risk factors of death of people aging between 5 to 14 years.
- Unsafe sex, Alcohol use and High body-mass index (obesity) are the death risk factors of people aging between 15 to 49 years.
- Unsafe sex, High blood sugar and High body-mass index (obesity) are the major death risk factors of people aging between 50 to 69 years.
- High blood pressure is the major death risk factors for people aging more than 70 years.

Cancer Analysis
0.55% of South Africa population was suffering from cancer i.e. 205686 people (average of years 2011-2016). Highest number of cancer patients deaths were recorded due to Cervical cancer (Count : 4396) and Esophageal cancer was also concerning with 4216 deaths in a year. In last few years it has been observed that, people suffering from Esophageal cancer have 5% of survival chance.South Africa was really successful in diagnosing Thyroid cancer where 97% of people were cured.Highest number of cancer patients i.e. 93189 people were of age group 50-69 year olds.In 2016, 41789 were suffering from Cervical cancer out of which 4396 people were dead.
