Major Cause of Death



Diarrheal diseases was major cause of death in Chad with 18036 registered deaths (in year 2016) i.e. 15% of total deaths. Overall Diarrheal diseases, Lower respiratory infections and Neonatal deaths were highest types of death causes in Chad.

  • Maximum number of deaths is seen in age group Under-5 with 69115 deaths (year 2016).
  • 22.54% kids below age 5 years die due to Neonatal disorders.
  • HIV/AIDS, Diarrheal diseases and Lower respiratory infections are the major cause of death in kids aging 5 - 14 years.
  • HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Cardiovascular disease are the major cause of death in people aging 14 - 49 years.
  • Cardiovascular diseases, Cancers and Lower respiratory infections are the major cause of death in people aging more than 50 years.
  • Overall its observed that 26% of people aging more than 50 years die due to Cardiovascular diseases.

Major Risk Factors of Death



  • Three Major factors of death in Chad are Child wasting, Unsafe water source and Household air pollution. Every year around 13761 people die due to Child wasting.
  • Child wasting and Unsafe water source are the major risk factor of kids death aging under 5 years.
  • Unsafe water source and Poor sanitation are the major risk factors of death of people aging between 5 to 14 years.
  • Unsafe sex, Alcohol use and Household air pollution are the death risk factors of people aging between 15 to 49 years.
  • High blood pressure, Household air pollution and Outdoor air pollution are the major death risk factors of people aging between 50 to 69 years.
  • High blood pressure is the major death risk factors for people aging more than 70 years.

Cancer Analysis



0.18% of Chad population was suffering from cancer i.e. 9919 people (average of years 2011-2016). Highest number of cancer patients deaths were recorded due to Cervical cancer (Count : 624) and Stomach cancer was also concerning with 619 deaths in a year. In last few years it has been observed that, people suffering from Stomach cancer have 11% of survival chance.Chad was really successful in diagnosing Kidney cancer where 89% of people were cured.Highest number of cancer patients i.e. 3821 people were of age group 50-69 year olds.In 2016, 3660 were suffering from Cervical cancer out of which 624 people were dead. This means 17.05% death rate of people suffering from Cervical cancer. This below data represents major cancer types in Chad and number of deaths due to particular cancer types :
