Cardiovascular diseases was major cause of death in Bahamas with 1005 registered deaths (in year 2016) i.e. 35% of total deaths. Overall Cardiovascular diseases, Cancers and Diabetes, blood and endocrine disease were highest types of death causes in Bahamas.

  • Three Major factors of death in Bahamas are High blood pressure, High blood sugar and High body-mass index (obesity). Every year around 3 people die due to High blood pressure.
  • Low birth weight and Child wasting are the major risk factor of kids death aging under 5 years.
  • Outdoor air pollution and Iron deficiency are the major risk factors of death of people aging between 5 to 14 years.
  • Unsafe sex, Alcohol use and High blood pressure are the death risk factors of people aging between 15 to 49 years.
  • High blood pressure, High body-mass index (obesity) and High blood sugar are the major death risk factors of people aging between 50 to 69 years.
  • High blood pressure is the major death risk factors for people aging more than 70 years.

1.16% of Bahamas population was suffering from cancer i.e. 4304 people (average of years 2011-2016). Highest number of cancer patients deaths were recorded due to Prostate cancer (Count : 91) and Breast cancer was also concerning with 81 deaths in a year. In last few years it has been observed that, people suffering from Esophageal cancer have 0% of survival chance.Bahamas was really successful in diagnosing Testicular cancer where 100% of people were cured.Highest number of cancer patients i.e. 1987 people were of age group 50-69 year olds.In 2016, 1149 were suffering from Prostate cancer out of which 91 people were dead.
